People and Planet in Practice
Beautiful work shouldn’t come at the expense of the places and people that make it possible.
At The Big Sky, we believe creativity and positive impact should work together. Whether we are producing a global campaign, shooting on location or developing a documentary, every production involves choices. Where we film, how we travel, who we work with and what we leave behind all matter.
Sustainability in film production is not a separate part of our business. It shapes how we approach the work from the beginning.
Creativity with responsibility
Film and photography have the power to influence how people see the world. But creating that work also has a real-world impact.
Productions can involve travel, transport, energy, materials and large teams working across multiple locations. We cannot pretend those things do not carry a footprint. What we can do is understand that impact more clearly, make better decisions and keep improving how we work.
That means considering sustainable production practices throughout the production process, not adding them as an afterthought.
From early creative conversations to final delivery, we look for practical ways to produce ambitious work more responsibly. The goal is not to limit creativity. It is to find smarter ways to bring ideas to life.
Our B Corp commitment
Becoming a B Corp-certified production company gave us a clear framework through which to measure our impact on our team, clients, communities and the environment.
B Corp certification is not simply a badge. It requires businesses to consider people and the planet alongside profit, while demonstrating transparency and accountability across their operations.
For us, that reflects the kind of film and photography production company we have always wanted The Big Sky to be. One that creates exceptional work while thinking carefully about how that work is made and who it affects.
It also pushes us to keep asking better questions. Can we work with local crews? Can unnecessary travel be reduced? Can resources be used more efficiently? Can the production create something valuable beyond the final images?
Progress comes from making these questions part of the everyday process.
More sustainable production with AdGreen
The Big Sky is also an AdGreen Superuser, supporting a more environmentally responsible approach to advertising production.
AdGreen provides the advertising industry with practical tools, resources and carbon calculation guidance. This helps production teams better understand where emissions arise and identify opportunities to reduce them.
Using the AdGreen framework encourages sustainability to be considered during planning, when the most meaningful decisions can often be made. This might include reviewing travel and transport requirements, considering how locations and teams are selected, and looking closely at the resources used throughout a shoot.
Every production is different, so there is no single solution. The important thing is to make informed choices and create a process that can be reviewed and improved over time.
Protecting landscapes through World Land Trust
Our relationship with the natural world has always been part of The Big Sky story.
The company grew from an adventure that took our founders around the world over land and sea, through extraordinary landscapes, communities and environments. That experience sparked a passion for storytelling, but it also created a lasting appreciation for the places that make those stories possible.
Our World Land Trust partnership supports the protection of threatened habitats and the wildlife that depends on them.
Whether you're shooting in London, somewhere else in the UK or further afield, we can take care of the production from first conversation through to final delivery.
